Thursday 13th March 2008 - Purcell Room & Royal Festival Hall
Venue
The Venue
The Creative Exchange with China conference will take place in the heart of London, at one of the most recognisable and sought after conference locations in Europe. The conference will make use of the Purcell Room and Royal Festival Hall in London’s most recently redeveloped landmarks, the Southbank Centre.
The Purcell Room
Situated in the Southbank Centre’s world famous Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Purcell Room is the most intimate concert hall venue in this prestigious and historic complex, making it especially suitable for chamber music, literature and spoken word events, mime and solo recitals.
The Royal Festival Hall
Standing at the heart of Southbank Centre complex, The Royal Festival Hall opened in 1951 as part of the Festival of Britain, and provides one of the world’s leading performance venues. As well as the auditorium, the building consists of The Clore Ballroom, Southbank Centre Shop, several places to eat and drink, and the Saison Poetry Library.
The landscaped river frontage of the Royal Festival Hall has transformed an access road into a pedestrianised Festival Riverside. It was officially opened in August 2005 with Giraffe, MDC Music and Movies, EAT, Foyles, Strada and Wagamama. An internal staircase provides easy access from the Queens Walk to the main foyers. Above this enhanced area, and sharing breathtaking river views across to the North Bank, the Riverside Terrace has an area for seating, defined by canopies over the new foyer and outdoor staircase. Limestone paving extends the foyer on to the terrace where you can find several new cafes and places to eat open long into the night.
