Welcome to the official website for the Creative Exchange with China conference, a carefully crafted opportunity for all creative industries professionals. It will deliver unique and tailored opportunities for UK Creative Industries executives to meet with their Chinese counterparts, develop cooperative arrangements, increase understanding of the sectors and plan successful strategies to win market share overseas.
China and the UK have never had so much to learn and gain from one another. We're both big players in the creative economy: The UK is a world leader and China is a global economic powerhouse. There is much we can learn from each other through sharing expertise, advice and support. We already do business together, but we could do more - that's the message I'll be driving home when I meet business leaders and Government officials this week.
Tessa Jowell (former Minister for Culture and Tourism, now Minister for the Olympics and London).
The Government has an important role to play in championing all the creative industries, both at home and overseas, to ensure that the UK maintains its position at the forefront of the global stage."
Margaret Hodge (Minister for Creative Industries, 2007)
It has only been 5-6 years since we began to talk about the cultural industries in China. In the past in China, we regarded culture as a kind of spiritual course which is focussed on social benefit rather than economic benefit. The Chinese government realised how important it is to the national economy and has already carried out a number of policies to help and promote development.
That is why the Chinese scholars and business experts would like to talk about this with British and international counterparts. This is also what we want to achieve in the Creative Exchange with China conference with business people and creative industries leaders in both countries.
Professor Xiong Chengyu, Director of National Research Centre of Cultural Industry, Tsinghua University, Beijing
